“Crazy Little Thing Called Love”

In this original student-written production by Quills at VSA, Shakespeare meets Chinese mythology as director Leila Zak explores her creative vision through the play ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’ — named after the 1979 hit Queen song.

In this thrilling tale, Don Pedro (Played by Atilla Fong), a worker at a divorce agency, finds himself in a mysterious room in the afterlife following a deadly incident involving a meteor strike.

In an ironic twist of fate, she assigns Don the task of matchmaking highschool students. Instead of separating couples, Don must now work to put them together.

In Acts 2 and 3, high school students Benedick (Played by Logan Chu) and Claudio (Played by Christopher Yan) often come into conflict with fellow students Beatrice (Played by Abigail Best) and Hero (Played by Natalie Ho), Don’s impossible task is to create two couples: Benedick and Beatrice, and Claudio and Hero.

As Lucy and Don integrate themselves into the high school setting, Hero slowly unravels Lucy’s true identity. In Acts 4 and 5, the action reaches its climax as the characters attempt to defy, outsmart, and break free from her control.

Will our heroes succeed?

‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’ was performed in the VSA auditorium on Tuesday, March 21st, 2023.

He is introduced to the devious and charismatic Lucy Fear (Played by Sophie Choy), who is assigned to make Don’s time in the afterlife as miserable as it can possibly be — premised upon the Chinese myth that every person’s hell is tailor made.
